New Morning 04:39
So this is the new morning, but I don’t feel new at all. It is not what you deserve, it’s what you get when the day is done. I am sick of gathering roses for a lover yet to come, I can hear the highway calling and I know she just will not call twice. I have been a sorry fool, but what else could a man be when they teach him tons of bullshit and not a single useful thing. Maybe I am down with love, maybe I am blind with pride, maybe I am forever a stranger chasing ghosts into the darkest night. Holy road, don’t turn me away, I got no one left but myself, but myself, but myself. Holy road, don’t turn me down, my heart’s a broken glass on the ground, on the ground, on the ground. So this is the new morning and I don’t feel new at all. It is not what you deserved, it’s just what you finally got. I am sick of striking poses for somebody who’s not there, I can hear the highway calling, whispering it is not too late. Not too late. Holy road, don’t turn me away, I got no one left but myself, but myself, but myself. Holy road, don’t turn me down, my heart’s a broken glass on the ground, on the ground, on the ground.

The Kid 03:27
This city imposes a hard toll on you, most of the time it just ain’t worth the pain. I’m going back to where I started, I need to find out where I took the first wrong turn. In my heart still lives a kid, I got pictures to prove he looks like me. In my heart I’m still young and free and man, I’m not tired of trying yet. You can kill yourself for a lover or just go outside and find another. Put yourself to sleep in September or wear your jacket on and remember there are many summers left, many reasons to look straight ahead, there’s no poison in me. You can run away to your mother or move those tiny feet and go along with the flow. Downtown streets are packed with losers dying of thirst and waiting for the rain. But no rain comes for those who choose to sit and slowly let their days go by on them. Somehow they forgot the kid that rode on fast trains to unknown fortunes. Oh, that kid was just like me and I, I’m not tired of trying yet. You can kill yourself for a lover or just go outside and find another. Put yourself to sleep in September or wear your jacket on and remember there are many summers left, many reasons to look straight ahead, there’s no poison in me. You can run away to your mother or move those tiny feet and go along with the flow. You can kill yourself for a lover or just go outside and find another. Put yourself to sleep in September or wear your jacket on and remember there are many summers left, many reasons to look straight ahead, there’s no poison in me. See You Soon 04:38
I believe in the end we all turn into stars, anytime I am down I just drive out of town and look up to the sky. I say nobody dies, nobody’s ever alone, there’s a spot on that hill where you can lie on you back and just talk all night long. The game ain’t over when they turn off the lights, it’s kind of a see you soon, not a goodbye. The game ain’t over when you hear the last call. So if you miss me don’t cry, I’ll be right by your side for a million miles more. I believe in the end we remember it all: every face we have met, every place we have seen, every wrong we have done. Now I’m ready to leave with your eyes in my eyes, I may not have been the best man but all in all I’ve enjoyed the ride. The game ain’t over when they turn off the lights, it’s kind of a see you soon, not a goodbye. The game ain’t over when you hear the last call. So if you miss me don’t cry, I’ll be right by your side for a million miles more. It breaks my heart, it breaks my heart, it breaks my heart to see you cry. The game ain’t over when they turn off the lights, it’s kind of a see you soon, not a goodbye. The game ain’t over when you hear the last call. So if you miss me don’t cry, I’ll be right by your side for a million miles more. So if you miss me don’t cry, I’ll be right by your side for a million miles more.

I’ve been a man of many faces, let you down in many ways, had to go full circle just to stand again in front of you today. So long the hostage of the lies, of the lies that I have told, had them wrapped around my neck, I didn’t realize until I almost choked. Now I’m not asking for forgiveness, that’s a thing I don’t deserve, I just wanna say goodbye before the early morning birds sing it’s too late. Well there’s no reason to be sad I was a jerk and I have paid, just let me tell you once you are the loveliest, sweetest thing on earth. When my time is up I will remember your face and I’ll go through the last threshold, baby singing your praises, so that they’ll hear about you oh in heaven and hell. When it’s time for me to go I’ll go calling your name. I’ve been to so many places I can barely keep the count but I’ve never met nobody that compared to you had a chance to stand his ground. From the rich men on the hills to the workers in the plains I have seen a thousand lives and none of them were worth a letter in your name. So I’ll try and try and try, then take a breath and try again, ‘cause I ain’t stopping till I make you see the amazing being you just became. Well I’m not very good with words but I am sure you’d understand how a man’s decisions tend to be a total mess when that man’s hurt. When my time is up I will remember your face and I’ll go through the last threshold, baby singing your praises, so that they’ll hear about you oh in heaven and hell. When it’s time for me to go I’ll go calling your name.

My god, it’s been so long since we saw each other last. You called me brother once and that’s for life. We had nowhere to go so we went almost everywhere, a road is just a dream that has no end. Driving’s like a drug when you’ve never had a home. But money writes the rules, you know that song. We had nowhere to go so we went further all the time, headed to the South in our minds. Now we’re back at the start for a second to last ride. Miles and miles calling out, calling us for the sake of better times. Seasons come and go carving lines upon your face, but that’s not what makes you old, not your age. It’s the lies you see and deny that weigh you down right to your grave and you and I have seen a good share. So stand up straight young man, the highway’s waiting past those hills. Stand up like a stone in the wind. Now we’re back at the start for a second to last ride Miles and miles calling out, calling us for the sake of better times.

Train 03:22
The stars have all fallen from an endless blank sky, the future’s just a face I can’t recall. I don’t know where I’m going, but I’m going anyway. Wherever there’s a road I’ll call it home. Hard on the heels of an obnoxious summer draught I took what money I had and left for good. With no one waiting for me and me waiting for no one I guess there wasn’t much else I could do. Hey little girl, are you waiting for a train? There’s no train in sight, only sand. But I know about a place where the water’s clean and cool, there is room for two if you wanna come. My old man became a farmer when my mama gave birth to me, he worked on the same fields ever since then. Some nights you could see something twinkling in his eye, something thirty winters would not kill. But I am not my dad, no, I’m not marrying to the land, she’s too old and bitter for a bride. I got eyes to see and legs to stand upon and ears to hear the horizon calling out. Hey little girl, are you waiting for a train? There’s no train in sight, only sand. But I know about a place where the water’s clean and cool, there is room for two if you wanna come. Darara, darara. The stars have all fallen but they’ll rise again in time, the future’s just a blind man’s face to me. I don’t know where I’m going but as soon as I get there I’m gonna drink until I get my fill. Hey little girl, are you waiting for a train? There’s no train in sight, only sand. But I know about a place where the water’s clean and cool, there is room for two if you wanna come.

French Car 03:24
I’ve been to the desert on a tiny French car, living gets so simple when surrounded by sand. Used to be the refrain of the song, always coming twice for you to sing along. I left home, this time for good, morons stay in charge. Bad synapses taking place inside my battered skull. I get lost and I get found, never felt so calm as running down the empty plains with the sun burning in my eyes. Oh the money, If I had the money I would be a king. Oh the money, If I had the money I would buy you a diamond ring. I don’t think we have a soul, we’re just made of hungry flesh. Any sins they charge on you, don’t go and confess. I’ve been to the desert on a tiny French car, living gets so simple when surrounded by sand. Used to be the refrain of the song, always coming twice for you to sing along. Never dreamt of California, I can stand the rain. I don’t think of a lover as a thing you can exchange. But the scars you see in my hands and the scars deep in my heart both required a change of air, somewhat of a clean start. There’s a tingling in my bones telling me to move ahead. Every time the highway calls I’m a fool for her sweet embrace. I’ve been to the desert on a tiny French car, living gets so simple when surrounded by sand. Used to be the refrain of the song, always coming twice for you to sing along.

A little harder, a little faster, a little closer to escaping from disaster. It’s only a shadow, you rear view mirror. Well, you’re the walking talking meal for an animal: all meat no bone, all meat no bone. You heard the warnings, paid no attention, you chose the right way just went the wrong direction. And now you’re rushing into the desert, all sweaty palms and your right foot to the metal. All meat no bone, all meat no bone. You’re on a mission, you need a cover, you expect your clothes to embrace you like a lover. You’re leaving clouds of dust, speeding all the way, something’s coming fast, you gotta get away. All meat no bone, all meat no bone. A little harder, a little faster, a little closer to escaping from disaster. It’s only a shadow, you rear view mirror. Well, you’re the walking talking meal for an animal: all meat no bone, all meat no bone. You’re on a mission, you need a cover, you expect your clothes to embrace you like a lover. You’re leaving clouds of dust, speeding all the way, something’s coming fast, you gotta get away. All meat no bone, all meat no bone.

Think of a time when someone held your hand and said “listen to me, the future’s just a mirage”. And you had the words on the tip of your tongue but instead of speaking up you turned around. Turned around and walked away, no one’s ever seen you around for long. You, the one who walks away, walks away and let the credits roll. Hearts don’t get broken, just go cold and colder, no wonder the desert remains your only friend. To give up so wholly on everyone always you must have gone through a lot of pain. So you pack and walk away, no one’s ever seen you around for long. Oh, the one who walks away, walks away and let the credits roll. You’re the one who walks away, nothing ever takes you by surprise. The one who walks away, walks away and let the story die. Darara, darara. Everyone goes through good and bad fortunes, it’s only a matter of time before kings fall. But you are no king and as long as you live you are free to write the way the story goes. Instead you choose to walk away, no one’s ever seen you around for long. You, the one who walks away, walks away and let the credits roll. You’re the one who walks away, an empty coffin weighing on your back. The one who walks away, walks away and let the story die. Darara, darara.

When I left home my mama said “this boy ain’t no good”. She kissed my cheek, waved goodbye, guess she never had a clue. The chapter closed I headed south, the flowers were in bloom. All the beauty in the world could not match my marching tune. I met the people of the road, we got along just fine. The visions I had as a child slowly came to life. I saw cheaters cheat their hearts, I saw stranded men, and I saw the world unfolding in the palm of my right hand. Living on the road, I do as I please. I’m writing my own book full of sudden twists. Heartbreak, sleepless nights, got no time for that. The things I’ve done, the things I’ve seen are the only things that count Alright, alright. It’s been a year driving around, I don’t miss the quiet life. I have my lunch before the dawn and sleep beneath the stars. Family is not for me, I’m not waiting for the call. I got my car and a bunch of maps and I go where I wanna go. Living on the road, I do as I please. I’m writing my own book full of sudden twists. Heartbreak, sleepless nights, got no time for that. The things I do, the things I see are making babies in my mind. Alright, alright. So many lives, I don’t want to choose just one. Where the hills kiss the sky I’ll be fine, I’ll be fine. Living on the road, I do as I please. I’m writing my own book full of sudden twists. Heartbreak, sleepless nights, got no time for that. The things I do, the things I see are making babies in my mind Alright, alright.

Drive On 04:11
Well, we got each other, we got a car, got an open sky to rest our eyes. We got a hundred stories yet untold and most of all: we got somewhere to go. They say around these parts it never rains, no matter where you look at it’s always spring. Winters last for years where we come from. Overtime, your blood gets cold. It takes a little help to find your way among the bumps and bruises of the road. But you and I’ve seen worse and lived to tell the tale, too old to complain, too young to stop. We just drive on, just drive on, just drive on. Remember when we travelled this same way, just a bunch of kids we could not tell there would come a time when we’d drift apart. It broke my heart, yeah, it broke my heart. Now we got each other, we got a car, we got some money left and hungry eyes. Feels so good to be back on our feet and I’ll stand by you, will you stand by me, oh. It takes a little help to find your way among the bumps and bruises of the road. But you and I’ve seen worse and lived to tell the tale, too old to complain, too young to stop. We just drive on, just drive on, just drive on.

Don’t call on me tomorrow, oh tomorrow I’ll be gone. You can keep my records, I don’t need them anymore. At the place where I am going, they don’t have no record players, but they don’t know about you and I won’t be the one who tells. Dancing drunk and barefoot on the rooftop of your car, I’ll always remember the look you gave me that first night. You smelt of fresh blackberries and I pretended to stay calm, how so sweet a thing could end up turning out so sour? Now shooting stars are falling on the road to Timbuktu, but I’m asking for no wishes, I’m afraid they may come true. Travel light and travel fast like a bird migrating South, the same memories that fuel used to hold me back with doubt. I’m still hanging to your picture, but the colors are getting blurred. I wonder whether our visions will fade out like that someday. Now there are no tomorrows for the three words you and me, but the road is wide and open and time does not mean a thing. Yes, there are no tomorrows for the three words you and me, but the road is wide and open and time just does not mean a thing.

The Call 05:05
Hey ya, hey ya, hear the call.

about

//////////////////////////////

Man of Many Faces, Pajaro Sunrise’s second album in four months, comprises the music inspired by and written for the original motion picture ‘4 Latas’, directed by Gerardo Olivares (‘The Great Match’, ‘Among Wolves’) and starring Jean Reno and Hovik Keuchkerian, to be released on March, 1st, 2019. It digs deeper into the folk-rock tradition hinted at on ‘W’, while setting the background for a road trip that becomes not only a search, but a breakaway.
